If you live, work, shop, eat or do business around Toorak Road South Yarra, there’s a parking review underway that’s worth knowing about.
The City of Stonnington is currently looking at parking restrictions across a number of its shopping and business precincts, including Toorak Road South Yarra.
The review is looking at how some of our on-street parking works, including the hours that existing time limits apply and whether some currently unrestricted spaces close to businesses should become time-limited.
The idea behind the review is to look at how parking can work better during busy periods, particularly when shops, cafés, restaurants and other businesses are trading into the evening and across the weekend.
Importantly, no decisions have been made.
Council is currently asking the people who actually use these streets and parking spaces to tell them what they think. That includes local residents, traders, employees, customers and visitors.
And parking is one of those things where local experience really does matter. What works on one street may not work on another. A café customer, a local resident, someone coming in for an appointment and a person working an eight-hour shift all use parking very differently.
So, whether you think the proposals would make parking easier, you have concerns about how they may affect you, or you simply have some practical local knowledge to contribute, now is the time to have your say.
The consultation for Toorak Road South Yarra is open now and closes 5 October 2026.
There will also be two drop-in information sessions for Toorak Road and Chapel Street on Tuesday 8 September, from 10am–12pm and 4pm–6pm, at the PMI Victorian History Library in St Edmonds Road, Prahran.
